One of the highlights of Spain's Basque country, San Sebastian is also known as 'Donostia' and stands on the northern coastline, close to the French border. San Sebastian is the one place on earth that offers you literally everything your heart desires, all year round, non-stop and round-the-clock!
Ideally situated on an excellent spot on the Bay of Biscay, it's surrounded by verdant mountains. San Sebastian is a bustling city with a population of 185,000 inhabitants and is also the cultural capital of the Basque country.
With its blend of cosmopolitan style and old-world ambience, San Sebastian is the perfect getaway. The area attracts tourists with its three lovely beaches: the laid-back Ondaretta, the casual and friendly Playa de Gros, and the popular Playa de la Concha.
To complement the beaches, San Sebastian charming old quarter is bursting with cafés, bars, clubs, and restaurants where you can try their tasty tapas. Other attractions include the Baroque Church of Santa Maria, the Gothic Church of San Vicente, and the Museo de San Telemo , a former 16th century convent. For spectacular views of the bay and town, climb atop Mount Urgull and Mount Igueldo.

San Sebastian airport is located 20 kilometers east of San Sebastian, Northern Spain. A bus service ensures transfers from the airport to the city centre. Taxi fares into San Sebastian are around 25 Euros.
Biarritz airport (France) is also very convenient, just 30 kilometers from San Sebastian.
Other airports in a 100 kilometers radius include: Bilbao and Pamplona (50 minutes by car), Vitoria (1 hour by car).
San Sebastian is a relatively small city to move around in and perhaps the best option is to walk. However, the city offers a selection of public transportation.
Taxis: there is a standard flag down rate and a corresponding rate will follow depending upon the place and the time covered. Taxi meters indicate rates of distance traveled and tariffs are available publicly for customer consultation.
Buses: buses are clean and efficient - 1 euro for one way ticket.
